We are pleased to announce the winners of the Brigitte Poirson Literature Prize (BPLP) 2024, celebrating outstanding literary excellence across poetry and short story categories. After a rigorous selection process, two exceptional entries have emerged victorious:
- Short Story Winner: The In-Between by Gloria Ogo
- Poetry Winner: Akpabana’s Banquet by Hillary Ofukocho Anfofun
These remarkable works captivated the judges with their originality, depth, and powerful storytelling. The winners will share a $300 cash prize, and secure an optional digital chapbook publishing deal. They will also have their works featured in the December issue of Cọ́nscìò Magazine and the 2024 BPLP e-anthology: Kaleidoscope 2 alongside the other shortlisted entrants

Meet the Winners
Hillary Ofukocho Anfofun
Hillary is a Nigerian writer, social critic, and academic passionate about social justice advocacy and the rule of law. A graduate of English, he serves as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of English at Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. Currently completing his MA in English at the University of Ibadan, Hillary has written numerous short stories and poems highlighting pressing societal issues. His winning poem, Akpabana’s Banquet, stands out for its vivid imagery and poignant social critique.

Gloria Ogo
Gloria is a Nigerian author celebrated for her impactful poetry and prose, with over eight published works, including her acclaimed novel While Men Slept. Known as a “writer of conscience,” Gloria’s work often tackles social and political themes, earning her recognition in platforms such as Opinion Nigeria and Daily Trust. She is pursuing her MFA in Creative Writing at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, USA, while also serving as a tutor. Her winning short story, The In-Between, was lauded for its compelling narrative and emotional resonance.

A Celebration of Literary Excellence
The BPLP continues to celebrate voices that challenge, inspire, and push boundaries. This year’s winners join an esteemed list of past laureates, furthering the prize’s global mission to elevate African literature. The 2023 winners were Divine Inyang Titus, Elisha Oluyemi, and Opeyemi Mensah Felix Bello.
