The Sun looked at me with a smile
That moment, earth was light
The trees all bowed for a while
Their fruits so succulent in sight
The moon greeted me on sight
There was my mother, my hero, my knight
Twenty Six kisses was all that right
For Grandma, my cries a delight
The birds sang before their evening flight
A day that is fine
With Strawberries, Raspberries Blackberries
All which I like
Adventure with April is what I find so nice
My name is Salamatu Sule. I am Igala by tribe and hail from Ankpa local Government Area of Kogi State. I was born the first child among seven.
I am a graduate of English and Literary Studies from Kogi State University Ayingba and the current Assistant Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja Chapter.
I stated writing scribbles at a very tender age of four but started proper documentation in the year 2010. My first publishes work appeared in a collection of Naija poetry anthology titled ‘IF YU HIE SE A DE PRIZIN’ edited by Mr. Eriata Oribhabor.
In 2012, I was also part of the 2012 Ebedi Writers Residency at Iseyin Oyo State of Nigeria which availed upcoming writers and those who wished to complete their manuscript a maximum of five weeks at the residency to do so.
I have also done reviews of authors’ works such as Hoodlums by Sumaila Umaisha, Whispering Trees by Abubakar Ibrahim Adam and Where There is Life by Safiya Ismaila Yero. These have been published on National Papers such as Tribune, Blue Print and web-zine like Paressia.
Several of my poems have been published on Web-zines and National Dailies and most of my works centre on social ills.
Currently, I am working on publishing my first collection of poetry.
Happy Birthday Sal!!!!!!!!!!! (Today is her Birthday)
Ma’am Salamatu Sule is a personal friend of mine that has been as elusive as a fish in water. She is camera shy but has one the most genuine smiles, accentuated by her Igala face mark.
I have found her style to be very easy to tag along with…simple but deep, just as I like my verses to be.
She may not be very active on WRRPoetry because of her work, but she has been a veritable source of encouragement, working with me behind the scenes.
I am a member of the WRR editorial team.
