Ode To Garri
www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry [Ode To Garri]
How can I forget your laudable love for me
And your readiness to calm my riotous tum?
You that has proven to be the fastest meal I know
And most balanced of all foods where I’m from

I dare that snake-like meal or its Italian elder brother
Defeat is theirs if ever they rise in comparison
And surely, somehow, both would be indicted
By your loyal patrons for committing treason

Garri, in all thy forms you never fall my hands
Men of all class today attest to the satisfaction you bring;
Garri, you chameleon that we have rightly understood
Sometimes you appear small, only to turn out big

Garri, You are the greatest life-saver in Naija
To this, the destitute will clearly affirm
You are the dessert we wolf after each course
Yea, some of them folks too would confirm

Garri, Your solid form is indispensable in every home
Not even ajebo Tolu, or Oluwaseun can avoid You
Truly, we all have scooped from your basin
And no one can say this is not true

This ode is well-deserved jare. I’ve been having a longtime love affair with Garri.
