Read Time:38 Second
Mummy Adeduntan
Mummy Adeduntan

Though I curled not
In the warmth
Of your blessed womb,
Nor sucked Life’s juice
From your breasts,

I call you mummy!

Even though I rode not
On your back,
Nor fell asleep
In the safety
Of your arms,

I call you mummy!

Yours is the hand
That puts bread and meat
In the empty mouth
Of the offspring
Of another woman’s womb.

I call you mummy!

My soul can testify
That my heart’s beats
Sing a song.
And there,
In the lyrics thereof,

I call you mummy!

I pen this poem
With crystal gems
Falling, klop, klop,
From the wells of my eyes.
Let none ask why;

I call you mummy!

Thank you Shian. She is actually the mother of a friend and she was like my own mother at a time when Life turned against me and my brother. May heaven bless her and her own children.
