We are pleased to announce a shortlist of the top twenty (20) entries for the 8th edition of the annual Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize, EOPP 2019.

The shortlisted poets are:

  • Ojo Taiye
  • Anuoluwa Olusegun Soneye
  • Ogedengbe Tolulope Impact
  • Ogedengbe Tolulope Impact
  • Hussani Abdulrahim
  • Testimony Jesutofunmi
  • Daniel Ajayi
  • Abdulbasit Suleiman
  • Nnadi Samuel
  • David Chimeremeze Okafor
  • Oluwatomiwa Ajeigbe
  • Oluwatomiwa Ajeigbe
  • Badmus, Firdaws Anisatullah
  • Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto
  • Samuel Junior Irusota
  • Edaki Aaron Odion
  • Ayokunle Samuel Betiku
  • Abdulsalam Faisal

Only eighteen (18) poets are in the shortlist because two of the entrants, Ogedengbe Tolulope Impact and  Oluwatomiwa Ajeigbe, have two poems each in the top twenty (20).

This edition’s judges — Iquo Dianaabasi and Ifeanyichukwu Peter Eze, will select the First, Second and Third place winners in the next round of judging. The First Prize is ₦25,000 cash while the First Runner-up and Second Runner-up places will be awarded ₦15,000 cash and ₦10,000 cash respectively. In addition, the three winners will get books by the Prize sponsor Eriata Oribhabor and Something For Everybody Ventures (SFEV) certificates of recognition.


ABOUT EOPP:

EOPP was instituted in 2012 by Words Rhymes & Rhythm Publishers in collaboration with Something for Everybody Ventures (SFEV) as an annual Prize to give the much-needed attention to Nigerian poetry and encourage young Nigerian poets to use poetry as a tool for social change. Sponsored by Eriata Oribhabor, the yearly contest has become the leading platform for the discovery, encouragement, and celebration of poets in Nigeria.
