Words Rhymes & Rhythm is receiving entries for the BRIGITTE POIRSON POETRY CONTEST (BPPC) SEASON II [2016 APRIL] on the theme: “PEACE ON EARTH”.

“Peace is the only battle worth waging.” ― Albert Camus
“It is not enough to win a war; it is more important to organize the peace.” ― Aristotle

The idea of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all peoples of the earth can be attained only if people willingly cooperate and put their resources towards forging an end to world violence. It is on this premise that the BPPC April theme is based ― that poets too have a role to play in spreading the message of peace and sounding the warning bells that continued violence portends collective doom for the human race.

Nigerian Poets from all over the country are invited to lend their pens to this theme and related sub-themes like Violence, Terrorism, Extremism, Religion, Humanity, Family, Society, and the role of individuals in attaining world-peace.

As has been severally said, the pen is mightier than the sword. Let’s prove it.

The BPPC is a monthly writing contest aimed at rewarding the under-appreciated talent of young Nigerian poets. It was instituted in February 2015 as a CSR initiative of Words Rhymes & Rhythm (WRR) in honor of Brigitte Poirson, a French poet and lecturer, editor, who has over the years worked assiduously to promote and support of African poetry.
Submissions for the March edition are open until the 22nd of April 2016.

Prize to be won:

  1. The winning poem will be awarded a cash prize of N5000 and a copy of ‘WHAT CAN WORDS DO’ by Kukogho Iruesiri Samson
  2. All top 10 poems will be published in the annual BPPC 2016 anthology
  3. All top 10 poets will receive a free copy of the BPPC 2016 antholog
  4. All finalists will be automatically entered for the Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP) 2016
  5. Authors of the top ten poems will be awarded a certificate each
  6. Submission deadline is 11:59 PM FRIDAY APRIL 22, 2016.

Guidelines:

  1. Contestants are invited to submit one poem on the theme: “PEACE ON EARTH” (and related themes sub-themes like Violence, Terrorism, Extremism, Religion, Humanity, Family, Society, etc)
  2. Submissions should be sent to SUBMISSIONS@WRR.NG
  3. All entries must be the original work of the poet submitting it
  4. No ATTACHMENTS, submit poem and other details as body of mail

  7. Authors must provide their full names and Facebook [ID for identification] and a 50-100 word biography in the body of the e-mail

Note that:

  1. Poems containing profanity, racism or vulgarity will be automatically disqualified
  2. The poems will be judged based on their artistic quality and creativity
  3. The judges’ decision is final and under no circumstances will they enter into any correspondence with entrants regarding their decisions
  4. The copyright of each submission remains with its owner but we retain the right to publish ALL and ANY entry in the annual BPPC anthology
  5. The contests will be held on a monthly basis from February – September 2016
