Whisper to me sweet nothings
As does my shadow to the wall
And on my body do stall
As dust on my curtains!

Take my hand in yours
And like Ma, gently tug
Me thro’ these dark doors
Of endless fog!

By my side please remain
As does this fear I hold
And when it grips, bold,
Do smile and ease my pain!

Through the years I fed
These thousand fears, I nurtured
Them and where they go I am led,
Like cattle of torture assured!

Please tell me of its demise
In lands far, far away
And if my heart in doubt sway,
Scold and say there are not lies.

Hum to me a sweet lullaby
Then watch me slowly unwind
And sink by and by
To long rest long denied.

Whisper to me sweet nothings
As does my shadow to the wall
And on my body come fall
As dust on my curtains…!

meet the poet: Don Malachy Chinedu Nwaogu
