The Wisest Fool
www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry [The Wisest Fool]
If I can burn night candles
On the desk of my ambition
And slaughter laziness as ritual
In the thorny forest of my sweats
Just to become a thundering god
That the world may at my roar

Without preparing my soul’s home
There, in the land of eternal bliss,
I am the wisest fool!

If I can commune with sinister birds
Beneath the dark shade of unseen trees
Sacrificing infant skulls
Far from the maddening crowd
To gather the fruits of the world
Into the barn of my greed

Without my conscience beating
The warning gong of death!
I am the wisest fool

If I can wear attires of gold
And shoes of silver
Tottering on the floor of rubies
And flying on the wings of fame
Into nests built with diamonds

Without preparing my soul’s rest
In Abraham’s bosom, beyond life’s rusty gate
I am the wisest fool

For all I gather with sweat and greed
Shall pass away with the stream of dust
