SHORTLIST: ERIATA ORIBHABOR POETRY PRIZE 2018

The judges of the 7th edition of the annual Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (EOPP 2018), ADEDAYO AGARAU and OYINDAMOLA SHOOLA, have released a shortlist of 20 poems selected from the two hundred and twenty-five (225) entries received.

The judges of the 7th edition of the annual Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (EOPP 2018), ADEDAYO AGARAU and OYINDAMOLA SHOOLA, have released a shortlist of 20 poems selected from the two hundred and twenty-five (225) entries received.

According to the judges, the following poems will go in for the second round of judging for a chance to win the N50,000 prize:

  1. APPLICATION FOR SURVIVAL
  2. STRIPPING A RIVER ITS NAME
  3. MY MIND – A PLANTATION OF HOPE
  4. NOW &THEN
  5. THE VERB FLEE
  6. IF ONLY
  7. //ERROR 404//
  8. TO WAZOBIA, WITH LOVE
  9. MY HAIR REGIMEN
  10. THE SOUND OF RAINBOW#
  11. I BURN INCENSES BEFORE SLEEP
  12. THE TRUTH IN A BLANK PAGE
  13. GIFT OF THE JUNGLE
  14. A PATRIOT’S REQUIEM OR AN IMMIGRANT’S TESTAMENT
  15. THIS IS NIGERIA
  16. THIS IS HOW YOU SMELL IN THE AFTERNOON
  17. THE RIVERS BETWEEN
  18. BOTTLED COUNTRY
  19. STRIPPING A RIVER ITS NAME
  20. ILLEGITIMATE CHILD

PRIZES TO BE WON:

  1. First Prize – N25,000 cash and an all-expense paid invitation to the PIN Food Poetry Contest award dinner
  2. First Runner-up –  N15,000 cash
  3. Second Runner-up  – N10,000 cash
  4. NOTE: All poets on the shortlist of 10 will receive SFEV certificates of recognition and books by Eriata Oribhabor

The winners will be announced before the 31st of March 2019.


ABOUT EOPP:

EOPP was instituted in 2012 as an annual Prize to give the much-needed attention to Nigerian poetry and encourage young Nigerian poets to use poetry as a tool for social change. The yearly contest has become the leading platform for the discovery, encouragement, and celebration of poets in Nigeria.
