<p class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f0f012ae80cd092296016d59f18c8e0f">Cá»ÌN-SCÌÒ MAGAZINE is thrilled to announce its call for submissions for Issue 5, Volume 1, themed <strong>“BREATHE,”</strong> slated for publication in June 2025. We are seeking diverse and compelling creative works that engage with this essential concept, welcoming submissions across poetry, short stories, insightful feature articles, and striking photographs and visual art.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What Does It Mean To Breathe?</strong></h2>



<p class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0522ee6161ed4a0f50e7810f6c5555ba">Breathing is the one thing that defines every living thing. It is the first thing we do when we enter the world and often, the last thing when we leave it. Between those moments lies everything: joy, grief, silence, struggle, peace. In this issue, we are exploring the many meanings of breath, as presence and absence, as rhythm and rupture, as life and as loss.</p>



<p class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cd333536ddff17336be741419d94c901">We invite you to consider breath not just as a biological act, but as a metaphor for how we move through the world. What does it mean to breathe through difficulty, or to find breath again after holding it for too long? Breath can be a sign of survival, a way of returning to the self. It can also be a protest—a steady, quiet resistance—or the pause that comes before something new begins.</p>



<p class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-770c13c4bbcc6170abb7ac17e72dcbf5">This theme welcomes reflection on renewal, a consideration of stillness too, not as inactivity, but as something deeply alive—an interior space where breath settles, holds, and waits. At the same time, we are open to work that contemplates the absence of breath: death, departure, and the lingering presence of memory.</p>



<p class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-37954becd7339657cb780cab6bf3982a">You may write about the slow breath of recovery or the quick gasp of realisation. The breath held in fear, or the one exhaled in relief. Perhaps your work will speak of breathing for others, for those who cannot, for those who were not allowed to. Or perhaps it will dwell in quieter spaces, where breath is simply a way of being, of noticing, of staying. We are seeking poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, hybrid work, and visual-text submissions that engage with this theme in thoughtful, layered, and original ways. We are especially interested in voices that stretch the meaning of breath across cultures, histories, identities, and the natural world.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Submission Guidelines</h2>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-bd9600e979b871c307d99fbd00ccee47">Submit any creative work that is expressed without inhibition. We accept stories, poems, essays, artwork, and photographs. All submissions must be the author’s original content.</li>



<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9f7275719c17a6b202b335da431148e2">You may submit a maximum of two entries per category (photo, poetry, art, prose).</li>



<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-444214389a218d40e31836585dda9db5">Art and photographs should be in JPG, JPEG, or PNG formats.</li>



<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2df33c6b8dc89fb25ed8549beb112673">Short stories and essays should be between 400 and 1000 words.</li>



<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0827a56a3ee3a73be1781d7ded1cf9b5">Artwork and photographs should include titles and captions.</li>



<li class="has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-32c02823bbbab096b5a505f0f37f4d02">If your work is not written in English, please provide a translation.</li>
