VANQUISHED HEROES

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry [Vanquished Heroes]
A tune was played near;
One of loss, a sorrowful song.
A chant was heard from afar;
One of joy, a victory song.

Two ends of one tale.
One the start, the other, the end.
Often, human eyes can’t see beyond the present.
The product of tomorrow remains unseen.

The tale begins with an ordinary man
Assigned to lead an army in green.
For twenty-one days they are expected to match
To the grand finale, if they can.

They prepared well for the task
But questions, people were quick to ask.
Dull was their first three shows,
The green army made their march too slow.

Forward, they continued to march,
Believing that victory they would snatch.
The army met the elephants, thought to be their demise,
And made them give way with consummate ease.

The people couldn’t believe their eyes.
The elephant’s battle was deemed their fall
Yet, the army marched on to the twenty First day
And there, fulfilled the hero’s call.

The people roared with joy
The victory songs were sung
Though seen first as the vanquished,
Now they are Heroes- unblemished!
