Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

The Words Rhymes & Rhythm Literary Festival—FEAST OF WORDS—is here again!

Feast of Words 2022 (#FOW2022) is billed for December 10, 2022, and is themed ‘WORDS FOR A NATION AT CROSSROADS.’ In line with the theme, activities at the festival will focus on examining the roles that words, in their various forms, and writers, irrespective of their genres, can play as the forthcoming 2023 general elections put Nigeria at a crucial crossroads in its socio-political future.

The non-ticketed one-day festival will be held at Eriata Heights Event Place, 29 Ayo Ajileye Street, Ori-Okuta (Via Agric), Ikorodu, Lagos State. Scheduled activities include a keynote address, a discussion panel, readings and performances (poetry, music, spoken word, and drama), on-the-spot writing and spoken word contests with cash awards, book sales and swaps, award presentations, and a book unveiling.

Our Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker is S. Su’eddie Vershima Agema who will read from his award-winning book, Memory and the Call of Waters (Winner, Association of Nigerian Authors Poetry Prize 2022, and Finalist, Nigeria Prize for Literature 2022), which is the official #FOW2022 Book of the Year and will be available for purchase at a discount at the festival. There will be high-profile conversations on “Art For Arts Sake Vs Arts For Social Good,” led by the renowned AJ. Dagga Tolar, and “Selling Nigerian Art: The Challenges of Literary Promotion in Nigeria,” featuring notable literary arts promoters Kukogho Iruesiri Samson, Brigitte Poirson and Eriata Oribhabor. Winners of the 2022 Albert Jungers Poetry Prize and the 2022 Eriata Oribhabor Prize (EOPP) will be awarded their prizes at the event. There will also be the presentation of special Achievement Awards for selected literary personalities. Also, the 2022 Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest (BPPC) anthology will be unveiled and distributed free to festival participants.

The Festival will also have an African-themed outdoor evening session tagged “African Night”. This session will feature various performances and readings in local Nigerian dialects and Naija Pidgin and a sampling of local Yoruba delicacies.

Words Rhymes & Rhythm Literary Festival, also known as “FEAST OF WORDS,” is one of Nigeria’s most anticipated literary festivals dedicated to young Nigerian writers. Styled as a one-day, non-ticketed event, it features poetry, music, and drama performances, panels, award presentations, and an African night of traditional performances and food. Since its debut in 2015, the festival has become an invaluable opportunity for young Nigerian writers to interact face-to-face.
