WE TOOK IN

Read Time:47 Second

www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry [We Took In]
In days gone, I was told
None was black, none was white
None was Franco, none was Anglo
None chewed arrogance, none failed tolerance
None brained nobility, none mocked religiosity….

We were all Sisters and brothers
Young stuck to the old like bread to butter
We took seats at full tables with smiles to down delicacies!
We took in sons and daughters by the hands of their chosen suitors
Murmuring not of wealth and region

And we took in Missionaries and their caps
Giving out our children for discipline and morals
Accepted new religion and doctrine without vomiting
Yes we’re used to taking in and taking in even more
Now, we must take out

This is not my Africa
Give me back my Africa of tolerance
I want it back.
