How many scars distort.
How many smiles linger.

How many trophies glimmer?
How many battles will never again be fought?

How many men remember?
How many children come back in December?
How many have you forgotten.
How many wrinkles now reduce youthful beauty to nothing?
How many lost returned?

Can you count on your fingers those you have gifted?
How many to seek shade in your kindness?
Do you bother that a little child out there is suffering?
Are you among the few that would lay down a mite in offering?
How many have your arms lifted?

How many appear around your silent coffin?
Where are you headed, for glory or for burning?

Success is this,
Not uncertain riches.
