IF TEARS CAN DO ANYTHING: Kay Ugwuzor

Read Time:1 Minute, 5 Second

If it helps to cry
Then cry
And like the heavens, pour rain
From the clouds in your eye

Soak your heart
In baskets full
With dauntless tears

Turn your pillows
To hard stones of sorrows
Then pass the nights
Without wink or sleep
Turn out the lights
Curl up and weep

Let the Gods go deaf
With incessant grieving and wailing
Till your tears are rivers
Rivers fit for sailing

But;
If crying could solve anything
Wouldn’t our pain have been carried away
By floods of our tears
Pouring from the walls
Of our broken hearts?

If tears could save
It would pull loved ones from the grave
They would be beside us
Drinking wine like old times
In a cloud of mirth and chatter

If tears could do anything
Mama would still be around
Cradling us in her arms
While crooning lullabies
Amidst the sound of crickets
And Papa’s creaking obi

If tears were enough
We would still see them
In rose colored chiffon
On the road to school
Coloring the north
In beautiful shades of laughter

Our tears have flown
For every mile we have walked
In this endless search for happiness
And if they were enough
We would have been satisfied
From crying oceans and seas

But tears are
But tears.
