I ONCE LOVED A LADY

I once loved a lady
Who loved me back
On Christmas day
On New year day
On Valentine’s day
On Independence day
And other times, except her day
She had all cause to keep away

Now I love a lady
Who loves me back
When hunger howls
When sickness swoops
When lack levies
When trouble trails
And other moments of my life
She stays by me through shine and strife
I once loved a lady
Who loved me back
At Shoprite
At Sheraton
at Tropicana
On CNN
And in the corner of my ‘batcha’
She had no respect for our charter

But now I love a lady
Who loves me back
Like mother and child
Like hen and chick
like bread and butter
Like five and six
And so my heart can gladly swear
How much I love her for all to hear

That other lady did fall away
This other lady has come to stay
