EKOSODIN by Efe Ogufere

Read Time:1 Minute, 1 Second

Along the rivers of red earth
A child weeps and pulls at her hair
Listen closely, hear the echo of footfalls
The rhythm as they rise and fall.
A thousand souls have walked this land
A thousand more lay footprints as we speak
Mapping out the terrain for footprints yet unborn.

Ekosodin,

Where the day is fast asleep and the night is wide awake
May the lights on Edo Street shine brighter still
Let the songs that filled our hearts play on forever
Where they see terror, we see beauty in the memories

Ekosodin,

Drowning screams bathed in blood and bullets
The fireworks held us close at night and led us home
Dawn came with whispers of lives lost in the blackness of night
The shadows walked free and we followed close enough
Lest we step on wrong feet and see stars from a stinging palm.

Ekosodin,

Ancient land, Urban hearts walked rural paths
Where what you had was never yours to hold.
May the bonds formed hold tighter than the colors we flaunt
A grain of sand for every heartbeat,
There is a bit of you in every piece of us.
