OLAJUWON JOSEPH OLUMIDE WINS ALBERT JUNGERS POETRY PRIZE 2022

Olajuwon Joseph Olumide is the winner of the 2022 Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP). The prolific poet won the Prize for his poem “DO NOT DIE IN THEIR WAR!” which won the April/May 2022 edition of the BPPC.

Olajuwon is an award-winning Nigerian poet, soul singer and author. He studied Mass Communication at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and teaches English Language and Literature at the secondary school level. Olajuwon’s published books include Walking the Pathway of Excellence and Beyond Our Dreams. He has also won the Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest (BPPC) a record four times, most recently the April/May 2022 edition.

He was awarded a cash prize of ₦25,000 and a copy of Devil’s Pawn by Kukogho Iruesiri Samson at the 7th annual Words Rhymes & Rhythm Literary Festival, Feast of Words 2022.



The AJPP is an annual prize awarded annually to the overall best poem for the combined editions of the Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest (BPPC) in each given year. Past winners of the AJPP include Akor Agada Nathaniel (2021), Oladimeji Adam Adedayo (2020), Emmanuel Faith (2019), Aire Joshua Omotayo (2018), Ogwiji Ehi-kowochio Blessing (2017), – 

Kanyinsola Olorunnisola (2016), Showunmi Olawale Michael (2015).
