CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: BRIGITTE POIRSON POETRY CONTEST 2015 [AUGUST]

Words Rhymes & Rhythm (WRR) is calling for entries for the August (7th) edition of the BRIGITTE POIRSON POETRY CONTEST 2015 (BPPC) on the theme: “I AM THE CHANGE”.

The BPPC is sponsored by WRR CEO Kukogho Iruesiri Samson in honor of Brigitte Poirson, a French poet and lecturer, editor who has worked tirelessly to promote and support of African poetry.

A monthly contest, the BPPC is ultimately aimed at celebrating and rewarding the under-appreciated poetic talents of young Nigerian poets.

It will culminate into the Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP) which will be awarded in January 2016.

July winner, Adedayo Adeyemi Agarau, became the 6th winner of the monthly contest, joining  past winners; Samson Oluwatoyin (February), Chika Onwuasoanya Tobi (March), Ikenna C. Igwe (April), Showunmi Olawale Michael (May) and Onisowurun Sampson  (June).

The July edition was on the theme: “TIME CHANGES YESTERDAY”.

Prize to be won

  1. A cash prize of N5000 and a copy of ‘What Can Words Do?’ by Kukogho Iruesiri Samson will be awarded to the overall best poem
  2. Authors of the top three poems will be awarded a certificate each
  3. All top 10 poems will be automatically entered for the Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP)
  4. All top 10 poems will be published in an anthology in January 2016.
  5. Submission deadline is 12 noon Friday August 28, 2015.

Guidelines:

  1. Contestants are invited to submit one poem on the theme:  “I AM THE CHANGE”.
  2. Submissions should be sent to submissions@wrr.ng
  3. All entries must be the original work of the poet submitting it.
  4. No ATTACHMENTS, submit poem and other details as body of mail.
  5. The CONTEST NAME AND POEM TITLE must be mentioned clearly, as the subject of the e-mail. For example:  “Brigitte Poirson Poetry Contest: I AM THE CHANGE”
  6. The maximum length of the poem should be one page, i.e. 30 lines (plus the title).
  7. Authors must provide their full names [and Facebook ID for identification] and a 50-100 word biography in the body of the e-mail.
  8. Nigerians resident in any part of the world are eligible.
  9. Entries are free.

Note that:

  1. Poems containing profanity, racism or vulgarity will be disqualified.
  2. The poems will be judged based on their artistic quality and creativity.
  3. The judges’ decision is final and under no circumstances will they enter into any correspondence with entrants regarding their decisions.
  4. The copyright of each submission remains with its owner.
  5. The contests will be held on a monthly basis.
  6. The top 10 poems will be automatically entered into the Albert Jungers Poetry Prize (AJPP) at the end of year.

The top 10 poems for each month will be published as an anthology in January 2016.
