THIS TIME

On bended knees with teary eyes
Here I am again
I know I’ve been here before
But the outcome is still the same

What really is the problem?
What am I doing wrong?
How did we get here?
Why am I singing the same old song?

Last week it was Ngozi
I told you she was just a friend
I know you caught us kissing
Should that amount to our end?

So I was careless with Habeebah
But I told you I was sorry
These things happen from time to time
It shouldn’t give you cause to worry

Your love is God’s gift to me
Please don’t take it away
I’ve run out of excuses to give
I have no more words to say

Your love gives me hope
Even in times of distress
When my philandering gets you mad
Do understand that I’m work in progress

My words may be sugar-coated
My flirting may seem persistent
But if you give me one more chance
I’ll make sure things are different

Adeola no longer lives with me
I’ve given Ibinabo some space
Please come back to me
And take your rightful place

This time I will change
It will be just me and you
I will always make you smile
And make your worries but a few

From mini-skirts and bum shorts
I promise to forever flee
Take me back oh my lady!
And give heed to my plea
