of the peals of laughter ringing out<br>
from the vocal orifices of playing children<br>
the sun embracing their naked,sweaty<br>
anatomies<br>
and the calling voices of their mothers<br>
tearing through the veil of the noon.<br>

These days are void<br>
of the chants of the midday hawker<br>
calling out for a buyer<br>
their haggling voices mixing discordantly<br>
with the throes of the dying engine<br>
of a dusty rusty four wheeled vehicle.<br>
.<br>
These days are silent<br>
void of the splattering of raindrops<br>
and the thunderous rumblings<br>
like a god’s fart<br>
that heralds the lightning<br>
slicing through the dark cloak of the sky.<br>
.<br>
These days are encapsulated in silence<br>
bereft of the cacophonous rantings<br>
of drunkards in a bar<br>
drowning their sanity in glassy bottles<br>
of sweet intoxicating liquid<br>
their voices blaring out into the dirty streets.<br>
.<br>
These days are enshrouded in silence<br>
void of the noisy barks of scraggy dogs<br>
who lie in wait in the abattoirs<br>
with impatient jaws and salivating tongues.<br>
for bits of carcass and bones gifted to them.<br>
.<br>
These days are silent<br>
bereft of the melodious chirpings of birds<br>
telling tales of their wondrous sojournings<br>
whilst perched on rooftops and swaying electric<br>
wires<br>
stretched across towering lignified poles.<br>
.<br>
And I am just here,<br>
a man<br>
with only his soul for a companion<br>
held within the quiet walls of Silence
