SHAME OF A NATION

Read Time:1 Minute, 22 Second

I.
We chased the eagles
Out of their homes, converged
There to our folly horn…
Shame of a nation
Dropping like waterfall

In a shameless show off
As though not enough
Strives, strikes and strikes
Thrives, leaving lies to lie
Before our eyes, while in
Pretence we fail to realise
How our attires are in shreds
Contravenes their moral codes
As we dance like strippers,
Exposing our butts to the
Chagrin of onlookers in
Exchange for a porridge of shame!

They connived with us
Then cajoled us into
Hoodwinking us
To gather for a dance
While they prance
Leaving us in confused trance
At the Eagle’s Square

Our mothers, wives and sisters
Became fame seekers, paying
Homage to the Emperor‘s wife…
Scramblers of needless fame
Eating crumbs from the table of Dame
Returning home with a bouquet of shame!

II.
Nine presidential jets
Not enough yet.
Outrageous jumbo pay
Not enough they say
A comatose economy
Falls short of their policy!

And this is our song
Piercing deep like a thorn:
False projection
Breeds dejection!

III.
Our youths are jobless
Our leaders are careless
Our laws are clueless
And our dreams are pointless

This is the shame of a nation
Thieving politicians, dragging
This ship in needless motion
And here we are bragging
That we are giant among nations
