I ran with a zealess zest
from the point of my failures
in a race that should have been victorious
because of the sand in my shoes

I walked with a heavy heart
from the presence that I know now
to a future that I know not
because of the sand in my shoes

I sat with an aching back
from the baggage that I shoulder
to a mission that should be ‘bagless’
because of the sand in my shoes

I slept a dreamless night
from the soulless adventures of my daytime
to a night that could have been hopeful
because of the sand in my shoes

I woke with a grinning smile
from the heavy, aching, zealless dreams
to a tomorrow that can be fruitful
because i flushed the sand in my shoes
