POLITICAL CRUSADE

Read Time:1 Minute, 5 Second

www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry [Political Crusade]
An all-night crusade that soon turned
An all-night political campaign
The governor came that night wearing a green robe
On it, his party’s name was boldly printed

Isn’t that enough campaign?
They should have known that Religion
Has already been circumscribed by politics
“Our Gofno has come to pray”, people murmured ignorantly

He actually came to play politics
The dirty game
And it ushered devout worshippers
To a grave… dug by politics

The Christian faithful gave a loud cheer
That soon turned into pandemonium
As the reverend father gave an encomium
And smilingly handed the microphone to the Governor

With the political spirit smothering the Holy Spirit
Governor began his speech, spiced with political proselytism
He had not finished his self appraisal when voices
were heard from the crowd, “oku n’a bia”

“Fire dey come”, people chanted
As they fled towards the one entrance of the crusade ground
There was no fire, it was a false alarm
raised by somebody unknown to everybody

People died
Not by fire, but by the fear of it
And the stampeding of the weak by the strong
In the struggle for safety
