MAY IT BE

May it be that when
this bloody combat ends,
We sit outside that
same veranda, where we
chewed kolanuts of ruin
and drank wines of doom.
But then shall our weary
teeth whiff out smiles.

When this struggle that
ruthlessly swept away the
feet of our nomadic sages shall end,
Our mournful night shall go nude.
May it be!

May it be that the moon
will peep with a huge smile across
the skies again and upon our land so
Our virgins shall tour fearlessly.

May it be that our hunters shall
chase fresh meats from the
intoxicated jungle of love and
mean the million words that
they blindly profess.

That the gates to our tabernacle
be widely unhindered so our
holy altar can be accessible.
May it be!

May it be that the ripples
from the stream meet our
hungry ears and the breath of
tranquillity tread our treacherous ground.

After this war, Adigun,
we shall rest in peace
savouring every drop of our labour…
