Sowed all my hopes in earthly brains,<br>
Their faith wavered like candle flame;<br>
Away, hanging on the Night, plain!
<p>Promises I smoked like cigars.<br>
Like pooch, I enjoyed sniffing words,<br>
Wagged my tail for pompous liars<br>
And now they have my ire incurred.</p>
<p>Foolish me! The fault bears my seal;<br>
I see now that the Writ is right!<br>
If I prayed, would <a class="zem_slink" title="God" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">God</a> not me heal,<br>
And keep my life from long-term plight?</p>
<p>“Cursed is the one that trusts in man”<br>
Clemency, gracious King, I plead!<br>
Scoop me out of this flaming pan<br>
Lest I be cooked as <a class="zem_slink" title="Satan" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">Satan</a>‘s feed!</p>
<p>For “Vain is man’s deliverance.” –<br>
This You’ve proven in my distress…<br>
Give to me, Lord, another chance,<br>
Without you, I remain a mess!</p>
<p>It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man (<a class="zem_slink" title="Psalms" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psalms" target="_blank" rel="wikipedia">Psalm</a> 119:8).</p>

 <div class="be-author-meta be-author-description">Ukpanyang Kingsley Ayi alias "Ayistar" is a 500 Level medical student of the prestigious University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. Born in the early 90s, he hails from Odukpani Local Government area of Cross River State. He is a Christian, a lover of words and writes for edification and motivation. He believes that "Talents and Gifts are tools for building our God-given dreams into reality." Though without an award yet, his works has been published in several poetry anthologies like Via Grapevine II, Epistle of Lies etc, and other poetry sites online.</div>
