AFRICA CALLING by Obodokasi Adehtem Agbor

Read Time:30 Second

London is calling
Mississippi, Amsterdam, Berlin,
Mumbai, China and Moscow
I hear the snow there is as white as the heavens
And the walls of China double the lips of lies.
But I have cotton stuck in my ears.

Africa is calling
Kenya with Swahili renditions
Cape town with the booms of Vuvuzelas
Gold coast and wobbling tongues
Nigeria with her confluence of discordant tunes
Uganda, Egypt, Freetown
And oh Ethiopia, with her voice as my mother’s
Calm as the rattling of still waters-
And my heart throbs in a dance.

My ears are abroad
But my heart is home.
