A BACHELOR’S RETORT

Pretty hands, I should, in marriage, take
Yet I hesitate, to such declaration, make
Question is, if marriage is considered cool
Why then is divorce woven into its spool?

I shall marry. I’d promised myself this one
I shall endeavor to make mine full of fun

If it’s about food, don’t worry, I can cook
Of beauty, I know exactly where to look
But are they not charming who furiously fight,
Visiting courtrooms for claims and rights?

I shall marry. I’d made myself a deal
I’ll allow wisdom shush egoistic squeals

If children, lacking, can set a home apart
What then? Does marriage not play her part?
Could be the husband, could be the wife
Could be from God, or other faults in life

I shall deny the Devil the ambience to survive
Let people keep their counsel, my God is alive

There is money, for four- or four-some family
There’s ample respect, and love is quality
There’s hope for tomorrow soon-to-form
There’s courage, too, to weather the raging storm

I shall marry. I’m willing to sing the song,
I shall marry. I don’t have to wait too long!
