They too are mortals

Let us not speak of them;
Our leaders whose passion
For spending sprees knows no bound.
Let’s not ask why they chose to live
In exotic mansions scattered around
The major cities of the world…

They do not know that they,
Not the masses are homeless!

Let us not see them as mediocre
Our leaders whose penchant flying abroad
To seek the touch of foreign doctors
In expensive facilities they lack at home
Just to treat common flu, malaria
Or headache, for which we’d use ice block

Is it not enough to remind them
That they, not the masses are sick!

Let us not speak of them in manners so rude
Our leaders whose sense of security
Is to make promises upon promises
To fish out perpetrators of violence
But end up hiding behind crenelated walls
Army of security personnel…

Now is not the time to let them know
That they, and not the masses are insecure

Let us not admire their caskets;
Our leaders when they die
Or be awed at their funerals or tombstones
That gulp fortunes meant for the well-being
Of we the impoverished, yet living
But we are nothing, mere citizens…

They are mortals; None of them has horns
To show for their old age!
