Iveta!
Slender stalk, swaying like sugarcane stalk
Dancing at the bidding of the wooing breeze,
I see you and I pause in my evening walk
To watch you float by with graceful ease.
Iveta, I see your fruits, twin rounded milk jugs
Hanging between your slender branches
Would they not make perfect mouth-plug?
Your eyes are cast like sparkling gemstones;
See as they light up your face like the sunny sky.
Your voice comes to me in stirring tones
And I whisper an answer, “Do not pass me by!”
[Would you pass by?
Or wait here with me
That I may show you why
It should be you and me!]
