UNCLE JERO THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER by Olawale Ibiyemi

I
Often he speaks with the charm of an angel, his words
filliping the minds that listen
like a feather

He is the priest standing
by the altar of unrighteousness
ready to sacrifice hymens; knife between thighs.

Predator preaches peace peacefully
and piece by piece
Reason is stripped of her arsenal, Reason
lies naked in Uncle Jero’s bed, raped peacefully
piece by piece…

II
“Close your eyes and let us prey”,
and so The Spirit is invited to nest on her breasts-
by the laying of hands the gift ho(e)ly is stirred,
in the loins of Jero; a two-edged sword.

“Nigga turn these stones into bread!
time to give this bone(r) a head”

Predator prays for prey who kneel before
The Phallic god – let god arise and his enemies
be scattered, let god arise and our innocence
be battered (to pieces).
