The gods Are Not Wise [The gods Are Not Wise]

The gods are not wise:
When men give the gods kola,
They end up eating it themselves.
None of the lobes go to the gods.

The gods are not wise:
The rain for which we give them glory,
They cannot shade themselves from it!

The gods are not wise:
As powerful as we claim they are,
They cannot shelter themselves,
But live in the hut
The hands of men made for them!

The gods are not wise:
And they laugh at man’s greater ignorance –
Making ‘gods’ superior over themselves!

The gods we we claim watch over us at nights
See not, but through the holes
Man carved in the statues!

We feed the gods.
Yet, we say
The gods gave us bountiful harvest.

The gods are not wise
But man is more foolish!
