CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize 2013

World over, the effectiveness of literature, and indeed poetry, as an agent of change is well recognized. It is in recognition of this that the ‘Eriata Oribabhor Poetry Prize’ initiative came to be in 2012 with Mr. Nwakanma Chika emerging the first prize winner of the 1st edition.

The 2nd edition is here and WRRPoetry invites all poets and lovers of literature to send well-worded poems that promote truth, justice, change and sustainable development in the nation.

‘Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize’ is sponsored by author, publisher and promoter of Naija Langwej, Mr. Eriata Oribhabor, in collaboration with international poets’ movement Words Rhymes And Rhythm (WRRPoetry).

GUIDELINES:
*The theme is restricted to ‘SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT’ in our societies.
*Entries must be original intellectual property of the entrants and cannot be altered or changed after submission.
*Kindly include a short bio (50 words maximum) and contact info (your full name, email address, phone number) in your submission.
*Authors retain copyright of their poems but submission gives us the permission to publish selected poems in a future anthology.
*Poems should not be more than 30 lines (verse)
*All submissions should be made via email as BODY of mail to wrrpoetry@yahoo.com with the subject: ‘Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize 2013’. No attachments, please.
*Entrants are advised to like WRRPoetry’s facebook page (www.facebook.com/WRRPoetry) and follow the twitter account @WRRPoetry for updates.

CLOSING DATE: Entries will be received until 31st July, 2013.
By 5th August, 2013, the shortlist of 10 poems will be published and eventual winners announced shortly after.

NOTE: Judges will be looking out for originality and their decision remains final.

First Prize: N20,000
Second Prize: N15,000
Third Prize: N10,000
Sponsor’s gift: N5,000

*The winning poems will be published on this blog and the winning poets’ profiles featured on our Facebook page.
*All poets that make the shortlist will receive a printed certificate and a special invitation to WRRPoetry’s 1 Year Anniversary/Book Launch in September where they will have the opportunity of reading their poems.
*Selected poems will also be compiled for a future anthology.

PROFILE OF Mr. Eriata ORIBHABOR

Mr Oribhabor holds a B.Sc. (Pol. Sci) degree, an Essayist, Poet, Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors,

Abuja, and member of the Naija Langwej Akedemi put together by the Institute of French Research in Africa (IFRA-NG).

Promoter of Naija langwej (Nigerian Pidgin), he once wrote the column Naija Langwej A-Z in Leadership Newspaper, Abuja Nigeria. His first published book, Abuja Na Kpangba an oda puem-dem (IFRA-Oribhabor, 2010) is a collection of poems in Naija.

He is the Editor of If Yu Hie Se A De Prizin, an anthology of poems in Naija. His forth-coming work, ‘‘The Good Old Naija’’ is a collection of essays published in his column, ‘‘Naija Langwej A-Z’’ in Leadership and defunct The Market magazine. Oribhabor manages a publishing outfit called Something for Everybody Ventures.
